I think I just stumbled on a technical writer's paradise....

Many of you already know that before I got started in amigurumi design, I was a technical writer for a Fortune 500 company and that's one of the reason why I enjoy writing patterns so much.

Yesterday, one of my friends from the Plush Team told everyone about the critter contest going on now through 4/25 by Instructables.com. Well, I had to check it out for myself. I created my account and got started making a tutorial for the amigurumi cupcake workshop that I did last summer... and didn't look up from my laptop until 2 1/2 hours later!

The site has some really neat tools and I know there will be plenty more Instructables for me in the very near future. I'm even tempted to splurge on a Pro account!

But, for the time being, I already had way too much fun creating this:

Crochet an Amigurumi Cupcake

And then, next thing you know -- I got an email from one of the Instructables editors saying that my tutorial had been featured. And, there it was on the front page!

Just type "crochet" in the search box and you'll see what I mean. So, on one hand... I love that I can easily create online tutorials with the Instructables tools. But, on the other hand, I could also spend a lifetime pouring over the instructional content out there already. I mean, WOW. Just enter "crochet" in the search box and you'll see what I mean. I even learned a few things that I never knew existed... check out this tutorial on "yarn bombing" (personally, I'd rather knit or crochet for charity, but to each his own).

  1. I kinda like the yarn bombing thing - making things colourful... in London they call it guerilla knitting! have a look at this http://knitthecity.com/2009/07/09/yarnstorm-the-third-the-phonebox-cosy/
