Is that a troll in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?
My Facebook Fans already know that I listed the first of my Pocket Troll Amigurumi earlier this week. I have officially been having too much fun with the little guys -- especially with the added help of some of my creative friends on the Plush Team.
Rather than tell you all about Pocket Trolls, I thought that today I would talk a little about how being part of a community of artists like the Plush Team has affected my work. Especially since the Pocket Trolls are such a great example.
The Pocket Troll design originally started out as a hamster. No, seriously. Stop laughing.... it did.
What came out of my hook and skein ended up being a bit more mouse-like. You may remember meeting the result back in late May when I introduced my "Strange New Critters."
I'm rarely completely happy with the first version of a new design, so I started to tinker -- first with the yarn types and then with the features (eyes, face, ears, etc.)... I posted what finally came out on Flikr to share with my pals on the Plush Team with the simple caption "What is this?"
And that's when things got creative... I got so much feedback from the Plush team and we just knew the little guys HAD to be trolls. But, not the mean, bridge-guarding kind... these had to be sweet little trolls with a skewed sense of wrong and right. The kind that make off with little "treasures" and build little nests with mismatched socks... And so, the Pocket Trolls got their back story and name!
For all my Plush Team pals reading this post, I want to say thanks for your help. And to all my other friends and fans, I hope you'll stop by my Etsy shop and see more of the Pocket Trolls (and read their fun back story).
And the moral of this story? Even a design that doesn't go quite the way you want it can be simply perfect when you have a great artist community to support you and your work!
