TIP: The head/body is worked in one piece, from the top down, in a spiral. If you haven't been using your stitch marker yet, now is the time to pull it out because it's easy to lose track with a larger round.
For rounds one through six, we are going to be increasing evenly to make a large, flat circle. The crochet term "increase" can sound a little intimidating, but it's not. In a nutshell, you increase by making two stitches in a single stitch from the previous round. That's it!
Once you have the six-round circle made, it's time to start giving the head some shape. By working one single crochet in each stitch around for another seven rounds, you'll end up with a small bucket shape, like this:
Note that my piece is held upside down in the photo to give you a better idea of the bucket shape. My thumb is actually on the top of the head and the hook is just about at the top of the neck.
To make the shoulders, we'll add a few more rounds and increase evenly again. By this point, you should have 54 stitches in your round.
